Cigánymeggy (Cerasus vulgaris Mill.)
The so called Cigánymeggy - type cherry (Cerasus vulgaris Mill.) is actually not a proper breed but a collective name for the dwarf cherries, which are available in great variety of shapes here in Hungary.
Within the framework of the breed the variability can be seen in almost every feature, there are different flowering and ripening periods, various fruit sizes, colours, content, production potential or vigour of growth.
The ripening period start sin the middle of June and ends int he middle of July. The size of the fruit is small generally less than 18 mm in diameter. The fruit shape forms almost a regular sphere, its colour is deep purple, the flesh is soft and the juice is highly colouring, acidic and moist.
